On Saturday 16th January 2010, with the agreement of Waitrose, Beaconsfield, several members of the Rotary Club of Beaconsfield at very short notice, organised a collection in aid of the Haiti Disaster, within the local Waitrose store.
Our President Peter Hodson and the members of the Rotary Club of Beaconsfield would like to say a big thank you for the support Waitrose, have given for allowing us this special opportunity to collect on their premises. Also to thank the Waitrose customers for their generous donations, and to all who helped with the collection at Waitrose yesterday in aid of the Haiti Disaster appeal. The support was invaluable and I am sure will be appreciated by the people of Haiti even though they will never know who we are.
This impromptu event was very successful and we managed to collect £2538.59 in the buckets, plus other subsiquent donations that have been added since which makes the figure, as I write, in approaching £2600.00. Donations are still coming in so the total is still rising.
The members of the Beaconsfield Club decided that the money will go to SHELTER BOXES, a very worthwhile cause since so many people have lost their homes and possessions. With the amount of money collected, at least five boxes would be provided at a cost of £490.00 each.
This was a great achievement at such short notice, once again, thank you for your support.
